China Syndrome
A couple of interesting things...
we had a crazy power surge that left our oven and half the kitchen destitute for most of the evening in the midst of exotic pizza making with fresh dough goat cheese bacon and numerous other fancies.....
at least the bacon was done, which I ate with a salad.
we finally got the power company to come out and help us, thank god the AC is on now...
so hot.
So I went into China town a few times...
it's kinda cool, kinda dirty, kinda nasty, really helpful and a great place to buy cheap produce and spices and herbs and such, some really exotic stuff too.
it's like a giant bizarre, some real cheap lunch plate specials and great dim sum which is like won ton or peking ravioli or dumplings to you, except it's paper thin and filled with all sorts of delicious materials from the planet they call asia.
Supposedly ChinaTown used to be real seedy a place the sailors went to as soon as they landed....it's cleaned up now, but there is still some strange elements lots of crazy homeless.
there is this one huge somaon dude who I think lives at a bus stop, cuz he's always there and he takes up the whole entire little hut. He usually screams at me when I pass on the scooter.
Best thing about china town is the prices, worst things, having to sift through produce that is about to go bad, great thing is selection of sorta rare ingredients, worst thing is the friggin giant pigs heads staring at you through the meat racks, seriously it's like a nasty smelly rotted area in some spot, but in actuality in the morning time it's the best freshest place to get good cuts of meat cheap, it just looks like texas chainsaw massacre by the end of the long day.
So here are some picks.
the small red spikey fruit is called Lychee, which is actually very very good stuff, they look like little pearl onions but have a very clean crisp soft sweet taste, they mix em in drinks cocktails and smoothies.
the big star studded is the Dacon, smells like dirty filthy skunk ass and tastes like it too.
big live fish tanks are everywhere and giant 8 foot tall chinese men come and eat the fish by the handful, then engage in serious martial artistry before stopping for a nice cold latte.
alright they never happened by I thought it would be cool
Lobster is here as well except it's like the caribean kind, spikey and kinda blue.
Went to Senator Hiram Fong's botanical gardens on Sunday, will post pics on that later, went as far north as ever as I ventured over the LikeLike Hwy, pronounced LeakyLeaky, much better drive with the scooter than the other Hwy.
Very beautiful as you hit the windward side of the island above Kaneohe....I reached a place called KAAAWA....which is pronounce KA A AVAH, the beaches are tiny but pretty, the water is all sorts of different shades of turqoise and carolina blue, very striking and very different that what I had seen on the other sides...
Stopped at a little stand and had coconut water fresh pineapples chinese bananas and then ate the coconut pulp with chili powder on it...good stuff.
look for Iolani Palace pics soon (the only royal palace in the US), as well as Senator Fong's Plantaton.
Oh yeah and I passed th KUALOA RANCH, that is where they filmed parts of Godzilla, Jurassic Park and Lost...I'm going on tour this week I hope.
and I found the University of Hawaii Baseball stadium, gonna check out some games they are already well into their season.
