First Night

Alright, just got up in time to miss sunset. well actually i kinda saw it. The pics here are of Kuhio Beach in Waikiki (the same as the morning) but now this is at sunset. All the beach is a blaze with Tiki torches like it was a giant tribal council. Thankfully they have not spoken and they continue to allow me on the island. Along with the fires, there is a plethora of live performances which all sound like Elvis and Frank Sinatra had babies in Hawaii and they became performers. Saw live Pacific dancers....Wow. Like, seriously Shakira ain't got nuthin on my home girls in the pacific. I mean the hips don't lie. I now practice their gut busting methods alone in my room at night, and then I apply enormous amounts of ben gay to my back afterwards. Seriously impressive thought.

Walked around the beach as far as I could, awesome, so many cool chill spots. One place the Rum Fire had these open fire pits next to couches right on the beach, real romantic especially when your by yourself with only a shaved Ice to comfort you. This shaved Ice goodie...wow....it's like imagine a slush but the ice is smaller and like powder....and then imagine you had a mound of it in a small flower pot and three flavors were generously applied to the fresh slopes. Coconut Banana Pineapple ( in honor of Hawaii)

You'll see this large catamaran that came on to the beach and then left in a hurry.

So much ridiculous shoppy touristy things. Japan in full force with the Yen, which I'm kinda digging thier styles (at least the women) so I wanna join Gwen Stefani and have my own japanese entourage dance troop with me at all times. (i'm working on it)

Very expensive high end shopping and lots of resorts have their own malls, it's crazy the Hilton is enormous. They have like 7 of their own restaurants and that's not including snacks and desert places.

Proud, I hate Ak Mak crackers and cheese for dinner.

Still Feeling like complete ass, in terms of sore throat and a solid cough but the air is nice.

Talked with someone about Race in Hawaii and they tell me that it is a much much much bigger issue than they let on. Hoale's like myself have some problems to contend with, blacks get the complete shaft as usual, Spanish (there is no Spanish) and then their are many cultures together. Everyone has to cater to a Japanese and now Chinese market.

Learned that Hawaii is the most Isolated Island in the world

Learned that the Sovereignty movement is strong except they all can't agree...Some want special rights for citizens native to Hawaii similar to mainland practices we grant Native Americans. Some want to be a country, some want a special class of statehood, some want a president, others want a king and queen.

Environmentalists are active too, although sometimes around here people are not only acting in the lands best interest but their own land's best interest, this conflict creates problems and weakens debates from sides wishing to stop development.

Environmentalists have nearly stopped the new service of the Super Ferry, which you may have guessed allows cars and passengers to travel between islands).

Homeless man shouts at me last night "hey dude welcome to paradise man, hey you found me man you found me, hope it works out well for you man" He was laughing hysterical which made me laugh back at him, but I think the joke was on me.
somehow.

Already was aware of these things, but I can see how a lot of people really struggle here. It is a very exaggerated place in terms of the gap between haves and have nots, in this case it's like social economic dividers where on performance enhancement drugs down here.

Pretty friendly people for the most part, except I have just been in touristy sections mostly.

More Later, thanks for reading and feel free to leave comments.

Patriots 10 am on Sunday, they showed a story on the local news about some New Englander tattooing a patriot logo in his head, so the world is still small in that sense.

Hey Dave
Glad you made it to Hawaii safe and sound. Sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. I would take that encounter with the homeless man as a sign. Oh yea if you need us to have a bake sale for you to help with expenses to come home let me know. Just kidding, I wish you all the best take care.
